Senior Sensory Specialist, Global Quality
Overview
The Senior Sensory Specialist, Global
Quality (GQ) is the Wrigley Company staff expert in sensory
quality compliance. The incumbent leads the organization
in global approaches to compliance, including methodology,
specifications, programs, implementation and training. The
Senior Sensory Specialist works closely with Research and
Development and the Manufacturing organizations in order
to implement sensory quality standards in order to produce
the best quality product.
Background
The Global Quality (GQ) function
creates and sustains competitive advantage for the Wm. Wrigley
Jr. Company through the application of quality strategies
to maintain and improve manufacturing and distribution costs
while bringing the highest quality product to the consumer.
GQ develops, implements and evaluates quality systems to
support the business objectives of Wrigley by providing
strategic direction, technical standards and support, implementation,
and training to internal client groups. The Global Quality
group collaborates with Wrigley customers and suppliers
to integrate Wrigley's quality methods with customer and
vendor systems and to enhance customer service. This group
works to define and develop sensory quality standards for
worldwide implementation.
Responsibilities
The Senior Sensory Specialist reports
to the Senior Manager & Corporate Microbiologist, Global
Analytical Innovation Team (GAIT). This position has no
direct reports. The scope of this position is global.
The Senior Sensory Specialist works at the direction of
the Senior Manager, GAIT to define and develop sensory quality
standards for worldwide implementation. The Senior Sensory
Specialist works with the Sensory Coordinators and panelists
at the factory, Global Innovation, and Satellite Centers
to implement sensory quality processes, including procedures
and standards to be used in manufacturing worldwide. The
Senior Sensory Specialist works globally to provide guidance
and support to manufacturing personnel, acquiring necessary
knowledge via both formal and informal means, including
participation in monthly Coordinator team meetings and relationships
with manufacturing and QA leaders.
Principal Activities Performed by
the Incumbent:
- Provides technical sensory leadership
and guidance to manufacturing worldwide to ensure that
sensory quality goals are met, including site visits and
assessments, identifications of non-conformance and development
of corrective action plans and follow up to measure and
guide progress.
- Performs data analysis and reporting,
ensures that panel maintenance is performed, conducts
and participates in sensory testing as needed.
- Develops approaches to sensory quality
for all Wrigley products worldwide.
- Develops standard methodology and protocols
for the evaluation of sensory quality; develops and maintains
Wrigley Quality Management Standards (WQMS) relating to
sensory quality.
- Develops appropriate sensory quality
training and facilitates delivery worldwide to ensure
compliance to requirements. Writes, revises, updates training
manuals, FSP requirements and procedures; verifies that
training is effective and develops methods for continuous
improvement.
- Acts as a mentor/guide for junior sensory
quality employees (where appropriate) with regard to quality
Sensory management, including methodology, review, implementation
and corrective action planning and execution.
- Supports new businesses by providing
training to Satellite Innovation Centers, Factories and
Co-manufacturers.
- Supports new business growth; develops
programs for communication and implementation of new standards
and requirements as appropriate.
- Maintains understanding of current
quality sensory directions and methodologies through participation
in professional organizations, seminars and individual
education efforts.
- Performs special projects at
the request of the Senior Manager, GAIT and the Director,
COE, GQ or other members of senior management.
Requirements
This position requires an understanding
of the Company's business strategies, manufacturing processes
and quality methodologies. The incumbent must be skilled
in project management. Excellent oral and written communication
skills are critical to success in this function. The incumbent
must be able to form productive relationships with a wide
constituency, including global manufacturing. Must have
the ability to diplomatically communicate corrective action
plans and ensure adherence to plans. A Bachelor's degree
in Food Science or Sensory Science is required, Master's
degree preferred. Certification in various quality sensory
methodologies is desirable. A minimum of five to seven years
in a sensory capacity is generally required, along with
two to three years supervisory experience.
