Sensory Technician

Overview:
This individual will work with the Consumer Center Supervisor to ensure consistent test execution on all tests administered in the center and lead the metrics for the center. This is a part-time position - 4 days per week (30 hours/week).

Responsibilities:
Principal Accountabilities

  • Demonstrates basic understanding of various sensory techniques
  • Deliver against the work plan for Sensory and Consumer execution of all consumer, discrimination and descriptive panels (longer term).
  • Assist in managing the execution of all consumer, discrimination and descriptive evaluation sessions to ensure adherence to design
  • Will be responsible for entering products into the LIMS system for analytical testing.
  • Collaborate with Consumer Center staff on implementing best practice guidelines
  • Solid working knowledge of CompuSense
  • Lead the development and implementation of external Sensory panelists through screening for acuity in taste, odor, appearance and texture
  • Train technicians on the recruitment, screening and maintenance of an external discrimination panel
  • Provide necessary tools for ongoing sustainability, including reference manuals and standard solution recipes Effectively track (metric) sensory research costs by functional area.
  • Manager the Sensory lab day-to-day operations to enhance efficiencies and simplication of daily activities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Well developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated passion, flexibility and excitement

  • Able to coordinate efforts cross-functionally to meet timelines and priorities
  • Communicates keys learnings to R&D as needed
  • Balance the application of "best" practices within the constraints of limited resources to meet aggressive business timelines.
  • Flexible work hours to meet needs of evening consumer testing

Critical Competencies

  • Knowledge of Sensory Science
  • Good oral, written communication skills

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in either a Behavioral Science (e.g., experimental psychology) or Sensory Evaluation with at least 1-3 years experience in R&D in a consumer goods industry is required.
  • Ability to work as part of a team
