The University of Guelph is seeking applicants for a faculty
position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor
(tenure-track) in Sensory Science with a focus on food systems.
The appointment will be a probationary Professorship in
the Department of Food Science. The successful candidate
will be expected to develop a vigorous collaborative and
interdepartmental research program involved in strong programs
in sensory analysis methods and applications, which will
be a focal point for faculty, graduate students, senior
undergraduate students, research associates, staff and industry
partners.
A high level of initiative and good communication skills
are important attributes for this position. The ability
to teach and communicate are as important as research ability.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach at the
graduate and undergraduate levels. The primary teaching
assignment initially will be an undergraduate course in
Sensory Analysis.
The Department of Food Science has a strong reputation as
a center of excellence and currently has 16 tenured/tenure-track
faculty members, several adjunct faculty, 120 graduate students,
120 undergraduate students, 8 permanent support staff and
several contractual support staff (www.foodscience.ca).
The Department has excellent laboratories and access to
a modern food processing pilot plant, and has key roles
in campus food related research groups including the Canadian
Center for Research in Food Safety (CRIFS), the Food and
Soft Material Science research network and Laboratory Services
Division of the University of Guelph. The Department of
Food Science also has extensive collaborations with other
departments and agencies located in Guelph such as the Guelph
Food Technology Center and the Food Research Center of Agriculture
and Agri-Food Canada. The University of Guelph is research-intensive
and learner-centered with a solid and enduring reputation
as a premier Canadian university.
